lego event

Future Scientists, Techies, Engineers and Mathematicians built towers, vehicles, structures and stations showcasing great creativity with friends and family! This was during our LEGO Showcase Event held on Saturday, March 7, 2013. This wonderful program was attended by over 250 children and adults. We are extremely grateful for the $2,500 grant made possible by Education Blueprints Association and look forward to using these materials again and again! The children’s colorful projects are on display all over our school, in the lobby, on bookshelves, counters, almost any place you look.

math

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital MATH*A*THON Our grade 1 students have surpassed their goal in completing math problems and giving back to the community. Many, many thanks to all for the hard work and caring during this year’s Math-a-thon. The contributions for complete math problems totaled $1,240.00 to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, enough to pay for a day of oxygen for all the hospital’s patients. There is even enough to help fund their newest ultrasound study. Our teacher, Mrs. Friedman coordinates this magnificent community service project with our students this and every year!

nasa

Students in 5-216 have “visited” NASA” all year! Together with their teacher, Mrs. Neme Alperstein, they have explored climate change, spoken with scientists around the country, and have asked many questions of the experts. Some include: What is NASA doing to investigate water purification on earth? What surprised them most regarding climate change findings from the satellites? What is the state of the glaciers melting in the North and South Pole? How does that impact on the sea life and sea levels of the world’s oceans?
