First in Family Fund Afterschool
Dear Families,
Welcome to the continuation of the free afterschool program at PS 174! We’re excited to partner with you in creating a positive, engaging, and supportive environment where every student can thrive.
To help us achieve this, we kindly ask all families to review the following expectations, which help ensure a safe and respectful space for learning and enrichment.
Please note: This program will operate Mondays through Thursdays and will continue through June 25, 2025, in alignment with the NYC Department of Education calendar. Daily pickup is at 5:00 PM.
Student Expectations1. No Personal Electronic Devices
To support student focus and engagement, students are asked not to use personal electronic devices such as iPads, tablets, phones, smartwatches, or any internet-enabled items during program hours. Devices should be turned off and stored away if brought to school.

2. No Internet Access
In accordance with New York State Education Department guidance and digital safety standards, students will not be permitted to access the internet during the afterschool program. This ensures a focused and secure environment.

3. Respectful Behavior Only
Students are expected to treat peers, staff, and school property with kindness and respect. Any form of bullying, disruptive behavior, or disrespect may result in suspension or dismissal from this program.

4. Participation
Students should actively and positively participate in all program activities. Following staff guidance helps maintain a smooth, inclusive experience for everyone.
5. Preparedness
Students should come ready to learn, with any necessary materials such as books or notebooks. Families are encouraged to send meals, snacks, and water to help students stay energized and focused throughout the day.
Family Responsibilities
Families play a vital role in the success of our program. By enrolling your child, you agree to support the expectations above and to help foster a nurturing environment. We also ask families to:
1. Arrive On Time
Please ensure that your child is dropped off and picked up promptly at 5:00 PM. If delays occur, notify the program coordinator as early as possible.
2. Communicate Absences
If your child will be absent, please inform the program coordinator in advance. Consistent attendance ensures students fully benefit from the curriculum and activities.
3. Keep Emergency Contacts Updated
Families must provide up-to-date emergency contact information. In the event of illness, injury, or behavioral issues, staff must be able to reach you immediately.

4. Support Program Policies
We ask families to communicate respectfully with staff and help reinforce program expectations at home. Open, constructive communication is always welcome.
If you have any questions or need to update your child’s information, please contact us at info@firstinfamilyfund.org.
Thank you for being a valued part of our first ever NYS-funded afterschool program at PS 174. We look forward to the months ahead!
Warmly,
Frances Kweller, Director
