Public School 174 Vision Statement

At Public School 174 we proudly embrace and celebrate our differences, knowing that each unique background, perspective, and story enriches our community. Our diversity—reflected in the many races, languages, cultures, and beliefs of our students, families, and staff—strengthens our shared commitment to learning, respect, and empathy. Together, we create a school where every child is valued, every voice is heard, and every student is empowered to grow, achieve, and contribute meaningfully to the world around them.

Public School 174 Mission Statement

By recognizing and embracing the diverse cultures represented in our school community, students gain a broader perspective on the world around them. This cultural awareness fosters an environment where differences are celebrated rather than merely tolerated. As students engage with peers from a variety of backgrounds, they learn to appreciate different customs, traditions, and viewpoints. This process cultivates empathy and mutual respect - essential qualities for effective communication and peaceful coexistence in a multicultural society.

Furthermore, civic responsibility is not just taught in theory, but actively developed through hands-on service projects. These initiatives encourage students to step beyond the classroom and connect with real-world issues, whether through volunteering at local shelters, organizing food drives, or participating in environmental clean-up efforts. By working to improve their communities, students develop a sense of accountability and purpose. They begin to see themselves as agents of positive change, learning that their actions can make a tangible difference. These experiences strengthen both individual character and the collective spirit of the school, building a stronger, more compassionate community for everyone.

Parent engagement is also a vital part of our school. When families are actively involved in school life, it compliments and supports the professional teaching students receive. Parents contribute valuable perspectives, reinforce learning at home, and help create a supportive environment that bridges school and family life. This partnership between educators and families enhances student success and strengthens the overall school community.

In addition, such engagement prepares students to thrive in a global society. They develop leadership skills, cultural competence, and a lifelong commitment to civic involvement. Through these meaningful interactions and contributions, students not only enhance their academic experience but also grow into informed, responsible citizens who value diversity, equity, and inclusion as core principles of a just society.
